Keats & Medicine | Digital Art 2022

Keats & Medicine is an art series I made in 2022 inspired by the life and work of English Romantic poet John Keats, and the intersection of the humanities and medicine. After learning about how Keats briefly studied medicine prior to his career as a writer, I wanted to create a series of drawings that encapsulate how his medical knowledge influenced his poetry. Each piece in the series consists of a mixture of anatomical digital drawings with quotes from Keats's poems and personal letters interspersed throughout. Poems referenced include “When I have fears that I may cease to be,” “Hyperion,” and “The Fall of Hyperion: A Dream," among quotes from letters to Keats's beloved Fanny Browne, and close friends Charles Armitage Brown and John Hamilton Reynolds.
