With the Tips of My Fingers | Gouache, 2025

As a second-year medical student, we are currently facing the last moments of our preclinical years. We will never have to sit in front of a lecture (or recording) for 8-12 hours a day for the rest of our lives. In one aspect, I feel like I am dragging myself to the finish line by the tips of my fingers. In another, I know I will miss the flexibility and privilege of doing all of my work wrapped up in a cozy blanket. I wanted to paint something that aligned with these mixed feelings, and also to pause and appreciate everything that we have overcome so far. There are still many more years of training to go, but I hope to continue to reflect on my journey through my paintings. Thanks for reading!

Michelle is a student at the College of Medicine.
