Metamorphosis of My Thyroid, Metamorphosis of Myself | Oil Painting 2025

The thyroid is a dynamic organ of the neck with a shape reminiscent of everyone’s favorite metamorphic insect. In wake of my partial thyroidectomy at The James for a follicular adenoma, I grappled with the metamorphosis of my own shape my own body. This piece illustrates how the scars of surgical patients are reminders of how our flesh and spirits are forever marked by that change. Our wounds provide soil for growth. Psalm 147:3
