Forrest Gump once said “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get,” but with a great-grandfather who’d gift me heart-shaped boxes of chocolate almost every year on Valentine’s Day, and who’d pick blueberries with my sisters and I in the summers as a kid, I always knew I would get love. His love was bountiful, unconditional, and reassuring, and it’s been filling my heart with warmth as I grieve the loss of such an important figure in my life.

This piece is in loving memory of my great-grandfather who recently passed away, highlighting some of my favorite memories of him amongst the many.

I love you grandpa. Thank you for providing love when I needed it the most.
