Vignettes | Watercolor 2025

I consider myself an amateur watercolor painter. I started to paint in autumn 2012, just after I was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer at the James. I took a class two weeks after my lumpectomy and proceeded to paint a little piece and post it on social media following every one of my 30 radiation treatments. After that I decided that I couldn’t possibly paint every day, I started posting a watercolor with an inspirational quote every weekend. I’ve yet to miss a posting; each one reminds me of the great care I got on my journey to the new identify of “cancer survivor.”

Karla is a faculty member at the Colleges of Public Health and Optometry
