An Evening in Asakusa, Tokyo | Photography 2023

Over the summer between my first and second year of medical school, I had the opportunity to visit Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo had been on my list for quite some time and though I had spent 5 days in the city it was not nearly enough. The sheer size and grandeur of Tokyo juxtaposed my visit with so much to see and so little time to see it. However, one part of the city I particularly enjoyed visiting was the Asakusa district and the Senso-ji temple. I liked it so much that, even with such a jam-packed schedule, I came back to Asakusa for a second visit. This time it was during the evening. With the crowds now gone and the amber glow of the temple lights, there was a deep sense of serenity present at that moment. I remember relaxing on a stone bench and in front of me was the five-story pagoda, the Asakusa Shinto Shrine. With the full moon shining in the background and a gentle breeze moving the clouds, it seemed to be the perfect moment to try and capture this memory in a photo. One of the best I’ve taken yet.
