I loved playing games with my family when I was little, and now I love playing games with my children. My youngest is currently obsessed with Kirby. This piece draws on the metaphor of video games, where the player faces challenges but often with the support of a teammate— Player 2.

As parents, we are the steady Player 2. We guide our kids with kindness and compassion. We support them while also encouraging them to overcome challenges independently. We show them that they are never alone, no matter how scary things may seem. Even when the world feels upside down, we team up and stand up for what’s right.
